About Us
The Society of Hispanic Engineers (SHE) is the Rutgers University student chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE). The Society of Hispanic Engineers at Rutgers University was founded in 1984 by seven Hispanic engineering students. They saw the need for an organization where Hispanic engineering students could meet to address their cultural concerns. The society was founded with the motto “Recruit, Retain, and Graduate minority students majoring in engineering, math, or science.” Initially, SHE was established independently from SHPE. In 1988 SHE became a recognized chapter of SHPE.

ACADEMIC ACHEIVEMENT
We provide instruction and services that support the development of skills necessary for effective performance and positive adjustment to the learning environment of Rutgers University.
This vision of academic enhancement for all members has enabled us to focus on our members’ individual needs.

SHE thrives on being able to give back to the community.
Events such as the High School Outreach/Shadow Program enable us to motivate high school students to pursue a higher education.
Through Community Service, we are able to engage in various activities that will have an impact on the lives of others, as well as our own.
CHAPTER DEVELOPMENT
We value our membership. We are committed to supporting our members by offering a variety of fun within our social events. We offer a multitude of enjoyable workshops, activities, and sports. These activities show the members the value of teamwork and interdependence.
SHE continues to contribute to the success of minorities in engineering and science fields. Our main objective is preparing members to be leaders in a competitive STEM career. Our vision is to provide our members with self-development and professional-development workshops during the academic year.
